The Executive Team

Nathan Morgan
CEO and Chairman
Nathan J. Morgan is the sole Founder of Continental Bank which he started in 2003. He is also CEO and Chairman of Continental Bank.

Continental Bank is a privately-owned FDIC insured commercial bank headquartered in Salt Lake City, UT. Specializing in commercial equipment financing for small and medium-sized businesses nationwide, the bank is known both for its willingness to listen to its customers’ needs, and the ability to fund their deals quickly.

Nathan grew up in Utah and graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in economics. Before founding Continental Bank, Nathan worked 23 years at Zions Bank. He currently serves on the UAFS Board and University of Utah Opportunity Scholars Board.

Ken Jackson
CFO
Ken Jackson joined Continental Bank as the Chief Financial Officer in September 2023 and brings with him over 18 years of accounting and financing experience, 16 of which were in the banking industry in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ken obtained a BS in Finance from the University of Utah and an MBA with an emphasis in Accounting from Westminster College.

Ken and his wife, Mary, have five children and one grandchild and love to spend time together camping throughout the state of Utah.


Erich Sontag
President
Erich has 37 years of banking experience in Utah. He was previously with Altabank and its predecessors' Banner Bank and American West Bank since 2011 as a Division Manager and Chief Lending Officer. Prior to that Erich was, from 1989 through 2011, the Wells Fargo Bank Northern Regional President of the Business Banking Group. Erich has a bachelor's degree in business economics and accounting from Eastern Oregon State University and an MBA from the University of Utah. He is a CPA and has a Utah Real Estate Brokers license. He has been the Chair of the United Way of Northern Utah and has served or is serving as a member of the Utah Bankers Association board, the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce board, the McKay Dee Hospital and Foundation Board, and the Davis Applied Technical College Foundation (DATC) board.

Erich lives in Eden, Utah and he and his wife Shelley have three children.
Tim Conklin
Tim Conklin
CCO
Tim Conklin is the Chief Credit Officer of Continental Bank, having recently joined the Bank’s executive team. Tim brings a diverse credit background to his role, having worked for several banks in commercial lending and credit administration since 1985. Tim’s career has been centered principally along Utah’s Wasatch front and he is experienced in the lending disciplines of Commercial and Industrial, Commercial Real Estate, Acquisition and Development, Builder Finance, Asset Based Lending and Equipment Finance.

A Boise, Idaho native, Tim decided make Utah his home after completing his education with a BS in Business/Finance at Brigham Young University. He’s a true-blue Cougar faithful. Outside of Banking, Tim enjoys spending time with his wife and family, watching college football, engaging in community service, and exploring nature on man’s greatest invention, the bicycle.  
Joseph Morgan
Strategic Partnerships
Joseph joined Continental in 2017 and is Senior Vice President over Strategic Partnerships. As a fifth generation banker, Joseph directs the sourcing, development and implementation of strategic partnerships with innovative fintechs and other specialty lenders. He has broad financial experience both inside and outside Continental Bank, having worked in many roles including operations, finance, credit, asset management, relationship management, product development, process improvement and system implementation. Prior to working at Continental Bank, he worked for Citigroup in NYC for two years in Equity and FX Sales & Trading. Joseph is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and is married with three young children.

Bill Turley
Compliance Officer
Bill Turley is Vice President and Compliance Officer of Continental Bank. Prior to Continental, Bill worked at Celtic Bank and First Electronic Bank, where he specialized in the compliance oversight of Strategic Lending Partnerships. Bill has worked with, managed, and launched lending products for some of the top leading FinTech companies including Affirm, Square, and Stripe.

Bill graduated from the University of Utah with his Bachelor’s degree, and is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) with the American Bankers Association. When he isn’t at work, Bill enjoys golfing, watching the Jazz, and spending time with his wife and two kids.
Kelly Barnett
Board Member and Strategic Partnerships Consultant
Kelly joined Continental in February of 2022 as a Board of Director and a Consultant. Kelly graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Arts and Masters in Accounting. He is a CPA and has 22 years of Banking and Cards and Payments experience from working as a CFO for Transportation Alliance Bank, COO of Galileo Processing, and President and CFO of WebBank. He is the chairman of the Board Strategic Partner Committee and works closely with Joseph Morgan and senior management to build and grow the Bank’s Strategic Partner Business.

Kelly lives in Bountiful with his wife Cheri and they have three grown children. He is an avid UTE fan and enjoys golfing, remodeling his home, and working on cars.

Collin Ferre
CIO
Collin Ferre is the Chief Information Officer of Continental Bank. He has spent most of his career in the financial industry at Zions Bancorporation and Mountain America Credit Union. In that time, he led IT risk, IT compliance, enterprise risk management, business continuity, incident response, vendor management, and various other responsibilities. He also led the FedRAMP and IT Compliance initiatives for NetDocuments, a leading SaaS provider for secure document storage.  Collin graduated from Brigham Young University with a Master of Information Systems Management. He holds several industry certifications Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), and Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE). 

Collin met his wife while attending BYU and they have four children. More than anything, he enjoys spending time with them, playing board games, or doing outdoor activities.  He also enjoys running.

Steve Ayers
Equipment Finance Sales Manager – Vice President 
Steve Ayers manages the bank’s equipment financing and 3rd party relationships which include brokers/dealers and vendor programs. Steve has over 22 years’ experience in commercial banking which includes 6 years of managing 3rd party referral relationships nationwide. Steve joined the bank in early 2022. Steve also has experience in commercial real estate and C&I lending.

Steve graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in finance. He is also a graduate of Pacific Coast Banking School with a certificate in Executive Leadership.

Steve is born and raised in Utah and loves the outdoors and being with his family. His favorite past time is mountain biking and exploring the many trails in the Wasatch Mountains.
